Job Summary


Independently performs moderately to highly complex data analyst tasks and assignments. These tasks include the analysis and validation of data (data profiling), the documentation and design of dimensional data models and the creation of data mappings. Experience with large data initiatives, Erwin data modeling tool and SQL are strongly desired. Applies advanced level technical skills to large business systems and problems. Designs, analyzes, develops, and implements new automated systems and modifies existing applications to meet the goals of the organization. Plans, organizes, and leads complex projects or phases of projects. May provide supervisory oversight for technical support staff and/or function.

 

Key Activities

  • Independently design and document relational database models to meet business requirements.
  • Performs source to target mappings for the
  • Communicates frequently with key stakeholders in various customer and System IT forums to ensure clear understanding of business needs and requirements.
  • Serves as subject matter expert on data sources and targets within the environment. Shares this knowledge with peers and junior staff.
  • Involved in the overall data quality of the system.
  • Serves as a key coordination point to manage the exchange of critical information and decisions between business owners and System technology staff.
  • Work closely with business unit to understand business data needs and requirements for reporting and data modeling.
  • Work closely with ETL Developers and BI Developers to ensure ETL and reporting needs are met by development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree from a two-year college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and/or work related experience. Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferred.
  • At least three years experience with computer systems analysis/network administration and user support.
  • At least 3 years of database design experience.
  • Moderate skill in SQL or other database query language.
  • Excellent initiative, innovative thinking skills, and the ability to analyze details and adopt a big-picture view.

  • Ability to take fundamental components and relate them to complicated problems (from micro to macro).
  • Can effectively describe and develop Conceptual, Logical and Physical data models.
  • Can describe and work with relationships (1:1,1:M,M:M, etc).
  • Can describe and work with super-types and sub-types.
  • Has experience with Dimensional models and data warehouse concepts (i.e. star schemas, snowflakes).
  • Can effectively navigate and work with an industry standard Case Tool. Preferably this would be Erwin.
  • Ability to use SQL to evaluate data and determine if the data matches the business rules.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Has the ability to explain complex technical information to technical and non-technical contacts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively build relationships, promotes a collaborative and team environment, and influences others.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • At least one of the following Operating System training/certifications preferred:
    - Microsoft Certified System Administration or Engineer training/certifications.
    - Current Unix/Linux Operating System training/certifications.
    - Current VMWare training/certification
